IOP In Ohio

Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) vary from traditional outpatient programs in terms of time and commitment.

IOPs are more advanced and require you to spend more hours each week in individual and group therapy. Sometimes, there are also other therapies you can access that aren’t otherwise available in standard outpatient programs.

Forward Health in Ohio offers a rigorous intensive outpatient program for those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. While anyone with a substance use disorder (SUD) can benefit from our program, we are an excellent fit for working professionals, full-time students and parents. What is an Intensive Outpatient Program?

An IOP is a structured therapeutic environment that meets three to five days a week for several hours each day. Because of the more structured environment, some people start their journeys with an IOP while others go through medical detox first. The goal of intensive outpatient treatment is to learn tools to help you maintain sobriety and identify possible triggers for relapse.

During the time spent in IOP, you will engage in a wide range of therapies such as individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy. All sessions are led by licensed therapists who specialize in the addiction treatment field. When you’re not in therapy, you’ll be living at home (or in supportive housing), engaging in everyday life.

Here are some of the topics you will discuss in your IOP:

  • Nature of substance abuse
  • Improving communication skills
  • Healing damaged relationships
  • Identifying and eliminating triggers
  • Recognizing unhealthy behaviors
  • Developing enhanced self-awareness

Who is an Intensive Outpatient Program Best For?

When you contact the admissions department at Forward Health, our intake specialists will recommend the best level of care based on the severity of your addiction, whether you’ve received some treatment and other factors.

Intensive outpatient programs are a step up from traditional outpatient programs. We typically recommend them to those who are ready to live at home but need a somewhat intensive therapy schedule to remain sober. This is what makes our program a great option for those who work, attend school or have a family.

The services offered in our IOP include:

  • Group and individual counseling
  • Behavioral therapy
  • Case management
  • Medical and mental health treatment
  • Pharmacological tools
  • Life skills training

IOP in Ohio: A Great Fit for Working Professionals

At Forward Health, we believe that addiction treatment services should be as accessible as possible. While it’s a common belief that people with addiction are homeless, non-working individuals, this is just a stereotype. In reality, 70 percent of people abusing drugs are employed.

Intensive outpatient care makes it easy to access personalized treatment while maintaining a semi-normal routine. Forward Health utilizes evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy to support our clients and provide them with the foundation they need to heal and recover from their substance use.
