Outpatient

Outpatient rehab is a type of substance use treatment that does not require you to stay overnight in a facility.

Instead, you’ll travel back and forth to your therapy sessions several days a week. This allows you to maintain much of your normal schedule, such as by going to work or caring for your children.

While outpatient treatment is not as intensive as other forms of treatment, it does provide structure and support. And, as you learn new skills and coping strategies in therapy, you’ll be able to apply them right away. This is one of the least stressful ways to transition to everyday living.

Forward Health in Ohio offers an outpatient program (OP) for those struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. Our program meets several times each week and includes both group and individual counseling. Contact our admissions department to find out if this level of care is the next step for you.

What is Outpatient Treatment?

Outpatient rehab is a form of substance use treatment that allows clients to live at home (or in another safe, therapeutic environment) while receiving personalized, one-on-one care. They typically have flexible hours and various session times to choose from, including evenings and weekends.

To understand where outpatient care fits in, it helps to envision addiction treatment as a continuum. Most people start off with some type of detox program and then transition to residential or intensive outpatient treatment. Afterward, they step down to a lower level of care, which in this case, is a traditional outpatient program.

A standard OP is the least invasive type of care, and it focuses on helping clients change harmful behaviors related to their substance use. Medical services are generally not included, though treatment centers like Forward Health can link you up to these services through our intensive outpatient program.

What are the Benefits of Outpatient Rehab?

An outpatient program offers a handful of benefits that you can enjoy almost immediately. But, to get the most from these services, they must be the right level of care for you. If you need more structure and support, our intake clinicians may recommend our intensive outpatient program first.

The benefits to choosing a standard OP are:

  • Flexible meeting times to accommodate busy schedules
  • More affordable treatment costs, allowing you to stay in treatment longer, improving your chances for a successful outcome
  • Apply the skills learned in treatment right away in your living environment
  • Receive support and feedback from your peers and therapists as you transition to everyday living
  • Stay closely connected to your support network
